Although bot edits don't count for preventing G13, the program to warn of forthcoming g13s doesn't seem to recognize that, so some of your g13s, tho technically valid might be savable if either the author had seen the notice, or those who check Category:AfC G13 eligible soon submissions had seen theml. We needtoget this fixed first, I think. I rescued a few that might need further checking. DGG ( talk ) 05:16, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
@DGG: Agreed, all of the G13 reporting/handling should exclude bot edits in issuing notifications and determining what is eligible (consistent with the criterion). Also would support a prohibition on bot edits of G13-eligible pages. UnitedStatesian (talk) 05:56, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
so, in the meantime, unti ll we get it fixed, could you please not nominate them till they have a chance toget on the lists? I'm still going to check each one that look even possible if I can, but it makes it much harder for me, -- I don't like to ask it as a favor I have a shoulder injury that will make it very difficult to type for trhe next month at least. DGG ( talk ) 17:02, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
@DGG: happy to pause (and here's hoping you feel better soon), but is anyone actually working on a fix? Or is this one of the "nevergreen" improvement initiatives? UnitedStatesian (talk) 20:55, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
@DGG: having heard nothing (and skeptical any improvements are coming), I am going to resume tagging the bot-edited drafts; it is the only way to stay ahead of a massive dump of drafts into the daily file. (User:Monkbot just dumped a large number into today's stale draft report, for instance). UnitedStatesian (talk) 15:19, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
Improvements at Wikipedia do not come quickly; My normal expectation and experience for significant changes is several years. Many things I started 10 or 12 years ago are still in progress. some of them have been accomplished; some never will be. But as you say the problem is what to do in the meantime. There's always a workaround. I am not sure how you identify the ones that you list. Tell me and I'll think of something. DGG ( talk ) 22:31, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
@DGG: I just look at User contributions for each bot, filtered to just the draftspace and checking "Only show edits that are latest revisions". Hovering over each draft's history link shows whether the prior human revision was outside G13's six-month window. Note that many of the drafts are not AfC drafts, meaning that subset would not get any user notification prior to my notifying them of the G13 tagging in any event. UnitedStatesian (talk) 02:25, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
Hey, is it really necessary to deactivate Categories with colons, like you did here? I know Drafts should not be in main space categories, but this particular draft was already force excluded by using the {{Draft categories}} template. BOVINEBOY200823:19, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
@Bovineboy2008: thanks for the question; the cats should be commented out to avoid polluting the article categories with draft or sandbox pages. If the {{Draft categories}} template is applied correctly ( :) ), commenting is not necessary; otherwise, colons it is! UnitedStatesian (talk) 02:29, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
Hi US. In your RfD nomination for Сitadel of Baturyn Fortress you say "The redirect's initial character is the Cyrillic "С", not am English C". How did you tell? I'm interested because these mixed text redirects come up every now and again but I can't tell the difference by looking (using Safari on a MacBook). Regards, Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 16:39, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
@Shhhnotsoloud: thanks for the question. I used Special:All pages with prefix and pasted the Cyrillic С into the box (which of course only gives ones where that character is the initial one; I think the standard "Title contains" search would also work (and show the character's use anywhere in the title) if you paste in the desired character. UnitedStatesian (talk) 18:22, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for your last two comments on my page. I realise that I have not updated the article as I have not had time in the last 6 months and have let it lapse. I may create a new draft with more reliable sources in future.Pmsouc (talk) 19:28, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. DannyS712 (talk) 13:06, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Hello UnitedStatesian, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Draft:List of, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Kept at MfD. Thank you. Mdaniels5757 (talk) 21:25, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

@Toddy1:: thanks for the question, but you have stumped me: I am not familiar with that code, and it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Maybe ask the helpdesk? (or you can safely remove that addition). UnitedStatesian (talk) 19:20, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
If something is marked as a potential copy/paste, it must be tagged as either a WP:G12 speedy deletion or cleanup up and marked for {{revdel}}. Please do not simply turn it into a redirect, as you did here. Primefac (talk) 20:51, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
@Primefac: thanks for letting me know; apologies, I simply missed the {{copyvio}} tag (don't normally expect to find those when processing drafts that are eligible for G13: six months is a long time for a page to sit with that tag on it). UnitedStatesian (talk) 22:44, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
I agree to delete references 1 and 3. Reference 2 is suitable for all citations used. It is a Calculus book. Thanks

Hi UnitedStatesian. Unless I'm missing something, G6 does not apply to "mistitled near-duplicate" drafts (e.g. Draft:Dillanm Draft). It's generally appropriate to redirect "duplicates" to another draft (see WP:ATD-R), but if you want to nominate these for deletion, you'll need to use MfD. -FASTILY23:30, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Also letting you know that I have declined your G6 nominations with the rationale "created with incorrect title, then moved". Many of these are relatively old redirects, and should first be discussed at WP:RfD before being deleted. Thanks, FASTILY23:38, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Draft:2019 Municipal elections of Westfield, Massachusetts and Draft:List of Mayors of Westfield, Massachusetts
You have my full permission to delete both drafts. I originally created them to make the political information of Westfield more known, even though the city is not considered newsworthy or notable due to the population and coverage. BacktoSchoolForever0700 (talk) 22:27, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Hello, UnitedStatesian. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "MoSys".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Three Suggested Edits for Your Consideration
Hello, UnitedStatesian.
I see that you've made business-status updates to the Vertiv's page in the past. Thank you for those and the thousands of edits you have made to keep pages current. I'm writing to suggest three potential additional edits to make the Vertiv page more current and complete. In full disclosure, I am a member of the the company's PR team, working in their external agency.
Thanks for making this updates, and will do re: other public company pages. Also, should the company type for Vertiv be listed as public since it trades on the NYSE? Thanks.
Hello, recently I improved the draft of the article "Montserrat (typeface)" and also i added a infobox typeface. Would you like to transfer to the Encyclopedia article? Thanks and regards, --Rodney Araujo (talk) 00:56, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
@Rodney Araujo: Thanks for you diligent work, and I saw you resubmitted, but my guess is that the article will again be rejected, because it has no sources. Please try to find sources in order to make it more likely that it is accepted (you can continue to improve while the review is pending). Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 20:03, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Astroviridae/Astrovirus
Hi, UnitedStatesian! I've removed your G6 tag from Astroviridae, as I don't believe we can or should have two articles on the same family of viruses – our existing page is at Astrovirus. It seems that a lot of the draft is anyway taken from there. I suggest selective merging of material from the draft as the best way forward. Thanks for all your good work, regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:54, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
I hope you can asssit me, I would greatly appreciate your help. I began a draft over a year ago and it's been deleted due to lack of editing. It has a lot of work still but I've done so much already I cried when I saw it was gone! It's my article Mike Roche(Musicin) the founding member of TSOL (Punk Band), and tattoo artist. I really appreciate however you can help me get this work back. I want to continue editing it's just been a hell of a year. Thank you TVaughanSoCalTVaughanSoCal (talk) 23:44, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
I've restored this article to mainspace. Per WP:DRAFTIFY, moving articles to draftspace is not to be used as a backdoor to deletion, and is therefore not appropriate for articles that have a significant history, are more than a few months old, or where the original author is no longer active. In this case the author of the article has not edited since 2011. If you feel it needs to be deleted it should go through AfD. – bradv🍁02:06, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Camden College (fictional college) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

A thought on drafts from deleted articles.
Even if the draft is not in draft as a result of the AfD, I feel that it is important to note somewhere on the draft that the topic was previously deleted, and that the deficiencies leading to this result can be found in the discussion. BD2412T02:25, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

I've not abandoned it! On top of that there's a bot that can sort that out! I have into interrupt my dinner to avoid wasting an admins time to get aG13 refund if it had been deleted. And I'm now in a foul mood. I suppose you are happy with that. THANKS! Djm-leighpark (talk) 17:15, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
@FloridaArmy: Creator notification is strictly optional on a case-by-case basis. My question for you is why you let so, so, SO many drafts reach the 6 month abandonment point, only to "rescue" them with minor edits or at WP:REFUND, only after other editors have had to tag them, or in the WP:REFUND case, administrators have also had to get involved twice. This makes no sense especially since it is so easy to keep track of a very large set of drafts and ensure they are human-edited every 5.9 (or less) months. Two ways: 1) add them to your watchlist: if you then click on "Edit your watchlist", the list that comes up has a history link next to every watched draft, and hovering over it (not even having to click) shows date of the latest edit. Or, 2) if you don't want to receive watchlist edit notices for so many pages, create a user subpage that lists all the drafts you want to "protect"; if you enclose each one in the {{articlelinks}} template, the list will display the same history link that you can hover over to see the history, just like in method 1). Looking forward to your response. UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:12, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
I create draftson notable subjects I come across that I don't immediately have time to flesh out. I was pu ished for creating short articles on such subjects so I am relegated to using draftspace. I would appreciate a notice and I dont2 think drafts on notable subjects should be speedied. Good judgment and common sense should apply. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:21, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
@FloridaArmy: then I would reiterate my suggestion: if you don't think they should be speedied, the solution is to make sure you make your minor edits every 5.9 months rather than every 6.1 months. If you do that, I can GUARANTEE they will never, ever, be G13 speedied again. UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:25, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
I would appreciate the basic courtesy and decencyof a notification when one of my drafts is put up for speedy deletion and reiterate my assertion thatcommon sense and good judgment should apply on what subjects are deleted. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:28, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
Can you point me to the discussion where it was determined notifications to creators are no longer needed for G13 nominations? FloridaArmy (talk) 13:29, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
WP:CSD says "There is strong consensus that the creators and major contributors of pages and media files should be warned. . ." It does not not say "must", and of course WP:IAR applies, particularly for a creator whom the community has found to have disrupted the AfC process. UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:34, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
I want to submit Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair for further review to remove the <--Peacock|date=August 2020-->, I have changed the promotional words those i used in it. please let me know, Whether I can delete that manually or is there any further page revisions will come.
Hello @BeenAroundAWhile: thanks for the question. Of course in Wikipedia almost nothing is "forbidden", but the relevant text is from WP:LISTNAME: "Best practice is to avoid words like notable, famous, noted, prominent, etc. in the title of a list article." And in fact in all of English Wikipedia there is only one "List of notable . . ." article. UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:52, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
Stale Drafts Confusion
Can I poke your brain since you have lots of knowledge in this topic? I was looking through the Wikipedia:WikiProject Abandoned Drafts/Stale drafts last night and reported a fair number of drafts that showed no promise of going further and were long stale (5+ years) with creators long absent (3+ years). I thought, from this that they were eligible for G13 (6 mo+ stale draft delete). Most were accepted with my report of G13, but not all were and were rejected for reasons I don't fully understand yet and would like to understand. Today a user commented on my userpage asking essentially "what the heck are you doing?" At first I thought I understood what she was complaining about, but now, I have no clue. Since you've been doing the Stale Drafts project for a good while, would you mind clarifying to me in a reply here what specifically she has an issue about, and why some of the pages I reported failed deletion under G13 so that I can contribute to the project better and not tick her (or others) off? I'll give you a few examples of drafts that G13 was rejected and the reasons that were stated:
Both had the WIP (Userspace draft|source=ArticleWizard) template on the pages before I reported them, but after I reported as a G13, that disappeared, and after the delete template was removed from the rejection, the WIP was not returned. Is that part of the issue? What should I be looking for to determine a G13 for this project to avoid such rejections? Both also have the category of "Stale userspace drafts" and hidden cat "Userspace drafts from (date)" on the page, so how are they not a stale draft, eligible for G13?
Thank you for your time, Zinnober9 (talk) 06:13, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
@Zinnober9: thanks for the questions, and your contributions. In order to be eligible for G13 deletion, a page in the userspace MUST have the {{afc draft}} template on it. If it does not have that template, the user can keep the draft around forever. Please don't tag userspace pages without that template for G13 deletion. UnitedStatesian (talk) 12:57, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
Negativism
Please see my (utterly frustrated!) comments on your recent additions to my talk page, about rejecting my honest well-meant hard effort. You - and your negativist teammates - have totally convinced me of never again trying to create a new article. As I understand "collective effort", some people make an initial effort and then others contribute to it until something "good enough" is realised. In this case I made the effort and there only came up a club of destructionist hawks who applied all possible arguments to refute my work, instead of improving on it. Bah bah bah - NEVER AGAIN! Yer can be proud! Jan olieslagers (talk) 17:24, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
@Liz: you are very welcome, and I appreciate the feedback. The only downside is it has taken me away from my C1 duties in the category space, but I sleep well knowing those are in your ever-diligent hands! UnitedStatesian (talk) 05:08, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi UnitedStatesian! I need your help, I did Miss Teen World contributions taking into account press releases and publications made about the contest since 2001, however Ayaat1998 reverted edits, I have read an "alert" and warning, preventing me from continuing with an impartial job that took me a whole day. Due to a legal problem with Miss World he was forced to change the name of the pageant in the US, is called currently Miss Teen Continents. Montece's sister, president of the Queen of Ecuador Inc. company sold all rights to the pageant to Rodrigo Moreira, director of Miss Teen Ecuador in 2012. Montece had more than 20 beauty pageants in Ecuador. The website of that event was http://web.archive.org/web/20031229021751/http://www.queenofecuador.com.ec/ and on the web there are hundreds of referrals that can give you a more clear idea about it. Hello UnitedStatesian. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Category:Films about Austrian royalty, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Category pages (along with talk pages and user pages) are only eligible for G7 if the author requests it explicitly, not implicitly by blanking. I just noticed these categories and since you are the one who created them, I thought I'd ask you about them since I'm not sure who was involved in proposing them. Do they represent some change? Will drafts placed in these categories be ineligible for G13 status? I think that might be a good idea, I'm just curious to know where the decision was made. Thanks. LizRead!Talk!00:27, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
@Liz: thanks for the question. The cats came out of a VPP discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)/Archive_159#Resolve_the_inconsistency_between_WP:DRAFTIFY_and_WP:ATD It was User:BD2412 who cmae up with the idea and set up the structure; I have only set up a bunch of the sub cats. I don't think anyone contemplates changing G13, but these categories allow us to identify pages that were at least established by non-anon users, and thus have a little more promise than your average draft. Currently drafts are only being tagged manually, but the bot is being worked on and once it is running the structure should be useful. UnitedStatesian (talk) 12:53, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
It is true that a draft moved from mainspace has to have been initiated by a registered account, which may signify better standing than an IP-initiated draft. However, the reason I wanted the categorization scheme was to identify drafts that were moved to draft pursuant to an AfD or CSD criteria, which should actually receive more scrutiny before being restored to mainspace to insure that the reasons for their being moved in the first place have been resolved. BD2412T15:13, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
(ec) I appreciate the responses. I see thousands of old drafts that are now being placed in Category:Content moved from mainspace to draftspace categories and are exempt from the six month period of dormancy. Are there editors who will be reviewing them? I doubt most editors even know that these categories exist, BD2412.
I am all for rescuing promising drafts and turning them into articles. In fact, I feel that some AfC reviewers are too quick to reject drafts. But I'm not for creating another holding pen that can exist indefinitely. How about a 12 month limit after being moved from article space to draft space unless the draft is being worked on? I'm sure the SDZeroBot can configure a draft tag for this. LizRead!Talk!16:25, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
I didn't request that drafts in these categories be exempt from G13, and they shouldn't be. The concern is merely that when they are submitted for review again, the reviewer should be aware that they have previously been moved from mainspace, and should ascertain why this happened, and whether the issues that precipitated this move have been resolved. Adding the category may reset the six-month clock, but ideally it should be added very shortly after draftification. BD2412T16:29, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
That might have been your intent, BD2412. I think it's fine for G13 status be delayed until the drafts can be reviewed by an experienced reviewer. I just wasn't sure there was plan for how this would happen. And now that I know this is a very new change, my expectations have been adjusted. As you can see from SDZeroBot's actions, it's been quite active moving drafts over the past few days. LizRead!Talk!16:39, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
My own view is that no changes to G13 are needed. These taggings by the bot do not reset the G13 clock, since G13 counts the time since the last human edit. Unfortunately the automatic processes to capture G13-eligible drafts does not have that bot/human subtlety, but I make it a practice to review bot-edited drafts to identify ones that are in fact G13 eligible. UnitedStatesian (talk) 17:44, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
I do not think that is a good idea, because they do not show up in the automated categories that I and Liz and the few other interested people check to see if they have promise of rescue. At the moment, the situation seems to be in a state of chaos, and we swould do well not to change any process until wehave an agreed flow pattern and know that it's implemented. At this point my concern is over 3 types of drafts: ones that the reviewer had not noticed should be evaluated by WP:PROF, or that were not in fact unreferenced, or did have somewhere the necessary indication for notability; ones that were declined for reasons that no dradt should be declined for--lack of inline references for any other than a BLP, for example, or incorrect formatting-- or anything else that can be fixed in mainspace.; and drafts that were never submitted for review at all for some unknown reason, but might even be good enough to be quickly fixed, or even immediately accepted,
I don't think of things as "exempt for G13"--- G13 is not appropriate for drafts that can be rescued if anyone thinks they can be so handled. I think some process like G13 is indeed essential, and I've deleted probably thousands of them, , but no speedy criterion is meant to be handled automatically without human review. DGG ( talk ) 23:33, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Stale drafts that are marked as "promising drafts", we are giving an extra 6 months of life. So, if you see one, if you could make a minor edit or just skip tagging them if marked as promising, that would be great. This is not official policy, we've just been asked to be a bit more forgiving for the 200 or so drafts that have been marked as "promising". Thank you. LizRead!Talk!00:33, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
another way of postponing them is to add a comment. I have been trying that lately instead of my earlier method of making a copyedit. Liz, I don't think just passing them over works, because some other reviewer who does no understand might try to delete them. DGG ( talk ) 23:24, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
Well, for good or ill, DGG, I seem to be handling the bulk of these aging drafts right now but I'm not sure how much longer I will continue. SDZeroBot lists between 200-350 aging drafts each day and that's a heavier load than I expected when I started checking G13s out in mid-September.
As for "promising drafts", there are fewer of them than I initially thought, there were just a lot that Atlantic306 tagged in April 2020. I think 12 months without any meaningful editing should be enough but that's just my point of view. I hope some AfC folks are checking Category:Promising draft articles to see any which might be ready for primetime. LizRead!Talk!23:48, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
I feel tthe same way.
My idea of the way to deal with the load is to figure out what to ignore & divide the rest. 20% are empty/non-English/personal home pages/nonsense Then don't bother with checking scientists, because I will. I cannot acurately do popular culture and sports--I hope you or somebody can. There are a good deal of misc organizations/geography/schools that anyone can do, and it would help to divide it. There are others than the two of us--we need to form a group of some sort ot discuss this
There's a safety factor in redundant checks, but we we may have to give that up. . .
But the real problem is going to come back 5 /6 months for now, when all the ones we've deferred are goingto come back again. There's something to be said for the practice of when it doubt and its non-promotional, and there's at least one good source, acceptor and let the NPP side deal with them. And when it is promotional, stubbify first. DGG ( talk ) 04:31, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
As for 12 months, they do not improve by themselves. They improve when someone works on them. If the would add value to the encyclopedia , and can be dealt with easily, it is not to anyone's benefit to let them go. There are also the ones that are simply never submitted for review, and should have been. But I agree, there are many which might be ok if someone cared, but are not worth bothering about otherwise. I usually am not marking these even at 6 months, but if I am, I will stop at 12.
It's true the rescuable drafts are few. I usually estimate about 5%. That's 10 per page of 200. , or 5 a day of the drafts. 5 a day is 1800 a year. I've been here 14 years. that's a potential 25,000 articles that could be saved. At the scale of WP, even a small effort give large returns. DGG ( talk ) 17:48, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
Question about next steps to recovering draft and publishing
Hey there,
My draft Draft:Cecil Williams Civil Rights Museum has been deleted due to a lack of editing in the past six months. I made the mistake of thinking I had submitted the draft for approval. I'm just now realizing I didn't actually submit it for approval; I'm not sure where I went wrong. Is there any chance you can help me undelete this draft, please? And is it possible to expedite the approval process, or do you have any helpful next steps to getting it approved ASAP?
I'm guessing you recovered the draft--thank you very much! I submitted it for review. Can you tell me how long it'll probably take to get approved or feedback on it?
Hi.
I created a draft article for Joan Chamorro at some point (I'm not sure of the date), which I think you nominated for speedy deletion. That was fine because I had stopped working on it. This is the notice I received by email:
Wikipedia page Draft:Joan Chamorro has been changed by UnitedStatesian
Jul 25, 2020, 4:31 PM
Dear Dratman,
The Wikipedia page Draft:Joan Chamorro has been changed on 25 July 2020
by UnitedStatesian, see
Draft:Joan_Chamorro for the current
revision.
But then after you nominated my draft for speedy deletion in July, a new draft article was created in August by vision dot.
That article has now become available in the usual way on Wikipedia.
Is the new article by vision dot somehow connected with my draft that you deleted -- or are they unrelated?
For your role in making a page happen for Joan Chamorro -- thank you, I guess. But I am a bit confused.
Dratman (talk) 00:15, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
@Dratman: thanks for the question. The page was completely recreated by vision dot, so has none of the content from your draft. But now that it exists, feel free to make any additional changes you would like. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:16, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
First, I greatly appreciate all of the work you've been doing here, for years. You're invaluable. But I look at your contributions and I just can't understand how sometimes you post a notice about CSD C1 deletions on the page creator's talk page and sometimes you don't. Some folks, like Hugo999, have asked me not to post CSD C1 notifications on their talk pages so I skip their notifications and others, like BHG, have created so many thousands of categories that they don't need to be notified any time one of them comes up as empty.
But ordinary editors do need to know. I'd say that out of 15-20 empty categories I tag, the category creator adds pages to the category so that it is no longer empty. So, we remove the tag and the category isn't deleted. You're using Twinkle so there is no reason that ALL page creators aren't being notified about CSD C1 tagging unless, for some unknown reason, you are unchecking the box to notify them. Please don't do this.
Page creators have the right to know that their pages are heading toward a deletion so they can address any problems that exist or just know why their pages have disappeared. Only admins can view deleted contributions so without a notification, an editor may not even know that their page has been deleted unless they get a notification.
I know I've posted about this issue before but I was looking into this particular category and noticed that the page creator didn't receive a notice and you skipped a few others tonight. Sorry for being a broken record but you do need to be consistent about this if you are going to continue tagging any pages for deletion. Thank you. LizRead!Talk!03:11, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
@Liz: thanks for the note; as always this is a legacy of my getting mixed up in trying to avoid notifying users, such as Hugo999 and BHG, who do not want repeated notifications, or fillng a user talk page with nearly identical notifications. I will strive to be more attentive going forward. UnitedStatesian (talk) 18:54, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
This category should not be speedy deleted as being unpopulated, because... (I have created in Draft:2021 League of Ireland First Division - just waiting on imminent announcement from Leauge of Ireland on start date to publish it, The other articles for Premier Division, FAI Cup, League cup will also be created in the next few days, so this category would be needed, thank you) JW 1961Talk11:25, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi, these tags are not supposed to be removed without a discussion with the editor who placed them. The reason that they haven't been edited lately has no bearing on the potential of the subjects which I can justify in every case. Some of them have recently been upheld by admin. Deleting them is unproductive as they use more space in delete space, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 01:11, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Articles for creation#Old drafts. These articles I've tagged as promising are not all hopeless cases as recently at least six or seven that have been ignored for a couple of years have been improved by other editors and published. Also the category of promising drafts allows editors to find drafts for improvement, imv Atlantic306 (talk) 01:34, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
I think the only reasonable way to remove it is MfD, or by waiting at least a year or two or three, and then notifying the person who placed the tag and any other editors who are still around, in enough time for them to challenge it, not just the same day it gets listed at speedy. This is Wikipedia , and it can take years for articles to get improved.~ Remember something I havent't heard much about lately WP:NODEADLINE, DGG ( talk )
This was only restored via WP: REFUND about 4 hours ago. Could you please give editors a reasonable opportunity to make edits before nominating for speedy deletion inappropriately. Cardiffbear88 (talk) 15:30, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
@Cardiffbear88: apologies, but there was nothing in the edit history to indicate it had gone through the WP: REFUND process. The refunding administrator is supposed to make a minor edit to reset the G13 clock, and neglected to do so in this case. UnitedStatesian (talk) 15:35, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
request re Historic Hotels of America articles
Hi, could you please restore Draft:NOPSI New Orleans (to draft space, I suppose) which you tagged for speedy deletion and then was deleted before I saw your notice. Over the last couple days you've notified me of 6 months period expiring for several hotel articles that I've created, and I have removed the speedy deletion tag and expanded some of these just now. These are all Historic Hotels of America hotels, which, by the way, I believe are all Wikipedia-notable, but about which there was disagreement about sourcing 6 months ago in an unpleasant wp:ANI proceeding. A larger number of these were moved to Draft space all at once. Could you please cooperate with me in addressing these all at once, perhaps, without tagging them for speedy deletion, or in or doing something different than notifying me one by one, with chance that the article is deleted before I get to it? And specifically about the one, could you please restore that now. sincerely, --Doncram (talk) 02:02, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
@Doncram: I would also suggest making edits to all of the drafts you want kept, since otherwise they will remain eligible for G13 speedy deletion and are likely to be deleted. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 16:13, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
Doncram, (and anyone else) I will restore any G13 deleted draft that has any promise. Just ask me on my talk page. I do a few dozen a day I spot myself, but I know I miss some. It would be even better if , after I restored it, you improved it. That part involves just too many for me to try to do all of them. DGG ( talk ) 19:31, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
November 2020
Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you recently removed maintenance templates from Draft:Yued. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Please see Help:Maintenance template removal for further information on when maintenance templates should or should not be removed. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Thank you. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:30, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
Apparently you didn't understand my tagging. The draft was considerably longer than the article. I had tagged the draft to be merged into the article, meaning that the article should be expanded. You redirected the draft to the article and removed the tags. Redirecting the draft to the article is appropriate if the draft is the same as the article or contains less information than the article. It contained more information, and I was requesting that the article be expanded. I have restored the more detailed version of the draft. You apparently made a mistake because you didn't understand what was being requested. Please don't make that mistake again. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:36, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
G13 nominations
Hi UnitedStatesian -- Do you think you could do a quick notability check before nominating abandoned drafts for G13, please? I've come across two recently that were clearly hypernotable and had some sourcing present. There has to be something better to do with these than simply delete them along with all the junk. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 01:12, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
My two concerns were Khaled Al-Karaki and John Simons (chemist), which as I said are hypernotable and partly sourced; the others are much more borderline. I don't see the point of having two people look at G13s if one/both are just going to look at the date of last human edit and not the text; they might as well expire automatically. ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
Thank you very much for your suggestion. I would like to ask you if you can give us other suggestions for our article in order to make it approved.
Thank you.Milan20MA (talk) 08:10, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi - I don't want to be boring about this, but there are in fact a number other Basilicas of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, including at Trakai, Olomouc, Święta Lipka, and Tuchow. So if I or anyone else wishes (and in fact I do wish) to do an article about any of these, it will now be impossible to revert the title of the Levoca article without a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. So do please take a breath and think a little before making changes of this sort. Best, --Smerus (talk) 17:27, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Hey UnitedStatesian, thank you for disabling the categories on my created page while it's still in Draft. Do you believe that my draft will get approved? If so when, and is there anything you could do to speed up the approval process? I would. really appreciate it! Thanks --RickyRosea69 (talk) 16:40, 5 December 2020 (EST)
unfortunately, I declined the draft for lack of substantial 3rd party reliable published sources, not press releases or blogs or postings or mere notices . If you want to take the responsibility of accepting it yourself you can, but if it is not improved, I will probably list it for AfD. DGG ( talk ) 05:33, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
@DGG: thanks for the review, I had the same opinion but wanted the second set of eyes. If RR is able to find the sources needed to improve it significantly, we'll give it another look of course, but for now it's not ready for the encyclopedia. UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:38, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
and it's a illustration of the problem with instructors who run courses without help from the education project(s). Since anybody can edit, there's no way wel'll ever stop them, especially as we never hear from them till the end of the term. DGG ( talk ) 17:01, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi DGG and UnitedStatesian . Unfortunately, my group and I cannot control the education system and/or the assignment that was assigned to us. If not we will have to search elsewhere for help as we're all trying our best to get a good mark. RickyRosea69 (talk) 15:45, 9 December 2020 (EST)
I have repeatedly offered RR that if she can help me get in touch with the instructor, I or others involved in the ed project can possibly help explain things. DGG ( talk ) 20:55, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

New Page Patrol December Newsletter
Hello UnitedStatesian,
Year in review
It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.
John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.
NPP Technical Achievement Award
As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Draftified articles
There are quite a few articles that were moved to draft space but were not newly created and need to be reviewed per WP:ATD-I. Would you be willing to take a look? There are many but these are just from one editor over the last few months: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Thanks 74.75.108.129 (talk) 20:37, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi, I saw you removed the categories from Draft: Israel Elwyn because it is "still a draft." After many edits and improvements to the article, I would like to know how to move it to main space. Can I do it, or do I need an admin? Best, --Geewhiz (talk) 10:47, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
@Gilabrand: Thanks for your work on the draft; I submitted it for review, which may take 1-3 months. You may continue to make any other improvements to the draft while the review is pending. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:23, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
I have made several more changes since then, and believe the article is fine. I am not a new editor and did not submit this article for creation. I merely came across it and saw that it needed work. After several decades of editing Wikipedia and writing dozens of articles from scratch (of which maybe one was deleted because I was away on vacation and did not see that it was nominated), I think I have some idea of what is promotional and what is not. In its present state, I think this article is OK - maybe not perfect, but certainly worthy of being moved to main space. It is an organization that is doing important work in the sphere of inclusion and disability rights, and hence deserves recognition.--Geewhiz (talk) 09:34, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
For organizations active in multiple countries, the usual decision at AfD is to merge to the main organization--why is this different?
You asked elsewhere what is wrong wiith the photos. They aren't appropriate because they add no useful informacy. The self-advocacy group one, for example, could be any people sitting togetherin a relaxed mode. DGG ( talk ) 17:07, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
It is not active in several countries. As far as I know Israel Elwyn is a self-standing organization that operates in Israel, although based on the ideology of Elwyn, founded in the 19th century. About the photos, I get what you're saying, but not sure it is true that no useful information is conveyed. However, if you think there are too many, I could pare down. No problem. G13s
Hi UnitedStatesian -- Where are you getting these from? I thought I'd checked all the feed up to 28th but I've not checked any of these and many seem notable or borderline so. Espresso Addict (talk) 04:54, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
@Espresso Addict: thanks for the question; these are ones that only have bot edits within the last six months, so remain eligible for G13, but don't appear on the reports (which can't distinguish between bot and human edits). I have to check each bot's contributions manually. UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:58, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. This is a bug, as they are predominantly articles moved from mainspace, which are inherently more likely to be goers than the, shall we say, random material actually created in draftspace. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 05:04, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
That would be helpful. We could really do with a single well-publicised feed, in order of expiry date, of all drafts coming up to the G13 cliff edge. It's hard enough to do any salvage work on them as it is, without missing some of the most salvageable candidates. Espresso Addict (talk) 05:12, 27 December 2020 (UTC)
In the meantime, I am trying to think of some alternative that would avoid the need to check every G13 deletion after the fact, It's much more difficult to check them after tehy've been deleted. DGG ( talk ) 12:14, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

@Espresso Addict: thanks for letting me know, and ugh, I know what happened. Everyone's times in page history show at their local time: normally not an issue. But since there is no June 31, a few which were last human edited on June 30 my local time thus looked to me like they qualified, but were last edited July 1 UTC (and points east) and so didn't qualify when viewed there. I'll be more careful the five times a year this occurs; thanks again. UnitedStatesian (talk) 14:57, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

I recently got the message below, and am trying to find more references for the article. I would like to keep the draft for a few more months to do so but I do not see the code to remove to keep it from being deleted. Can you help me? Thanks!
Hello, Ron3000001. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Horne Hybrid Reactor".
Hello, I have been editing a little bit in the past 6 months, for some reason it wouldn't show that I did, as it says on my recent summary I am having trouble getting interviews with the faculty due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic
Hi, I have a question about the draft page you moved. Will it mess it up permanently? Because I don't think the submit for review button will work, because now it's on a public draft, or am I wrong? Toad6419:05, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
Could you help me with this?
Hello, thank you for your message. I got a message saying that it would take even 3 months for the draft to be reviewed. I wanted to ask you if there is any possibility to make it faster or if you know some way for me to help it be reviewed and finally become an article in less than 3 months?
Thank you. Mehrnoosh.satchmeh (talk) 16:28, 14 January 2021 (UTC)mehrnoosh.satchmeh

Hi, I am working on a draft of an article about Lee Olesky, the founder of Tradeweb. I am reaching out to you because I noticed that you are interested in helping articles in the draft space, are interested in US business and economics, and recently edited the Tradeweb Wikipedia article. I am kindly requesting that you take a look at Lee Olesky’s draft article to see if it can be moved to main space and, if not, to please give me advice on how to get it there. Thank you so much for your time and effort. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RossAric (talk • contribs) 18:09, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
Request on 23:07:40, 20 January 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Pakusman
Hi. I'm looking for a reviewer for these pages who is knowledgeable about PE/VC. If you have time would you mind reviewing and assigning a wikiproject rating to them if applicable?
I see that you've redirected the Draft:Brexit Party to the current article. I created this draft as well as Draft:Reform UK because the Brexit Party has been re-registered as Reform UK with other policy goals, and we have a discussion on the talk page on how to deal with this. I support a split, and my intention was to show how the article would look like under a split. Should I call it differently perhaps? Kahlores (talk) 21:04, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Hey, and remember to notify page/category creators when you tag them for CSD deletion. Just click the right boxes on Twinkle. Thanks! LizRead!Talk!06:23, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
@Pvmoutside: thanks for the note, but common Wikipedia practice is that we do not create categories for taxon namers who do not themselves have Wikipedia articles. And of course, non-existent categories should not be added to articles. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 18:56, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
Hello, UnitedStatesian. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Sheet Harbour Passage, Nova Scotia, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Draft space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for article space.
If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion under CSD G13. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it. You may request userfication of the content if it meets requirements.
If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available here.
If you consider these categories about educational organizations and educational institutions to serve the same purpose, I think you should nominate them for merging at WP:CFD. In the meantime, the terms are not synonymous, and the categories should probably not be parented like they are now after your edits.
Is there something I have missed in the way you read this category tree, or do you have a specific idea to fix the issues listed above? Otherwise I would just revert to the prior version. Place Clichy (talk) 15:18, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
@Place Clichy: thanks for the note, and apologies; I was interrupted in my continuing work on those cats, but should get back to them later today or first thing tomorrow and expect to resolve the issues you point out. Once I have done so, would you mind if I pinged you to take a second look and pass on any further comments? Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 16:37, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

I just found this new code that might make things easier, at least it has made the process quicker for me. When you run into categories on Draft pages, you don't need to add a colon to the beginning of each category. This will do the trick.
{{Draft categories|
]
]
}}
will appear like this:
This page will be placed in the following categories if it is moved to the article namespace.
..and so the draft won't show up in those categories any longer. It's probably the same number of characters but you don't have to move your cursor around as much. I wish I had stumbled on this a few years ago. LizRead!Talk!02:32, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I think I made some mistake. I submitted my draft and I got a message that it was rejected because there is another one pending review. Actually I cannot see any other page and I suspected to have made something wrong. Can you provide me some advice? Thanks --Cormarer (talk) 18:34, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your help moving this entry to the correct space. I have also now added a few tags, which may expedite review. If there is anything else I can do to move forward, can you let me know? I see in other comments notes about deletions prompted by inactivity; I wouldn't want that to happen while I'm waiting for review, but I don't anticipate working on this further until I hear back from a reviewer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrmedit (talk • contribs) 13:42, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi, UnitedStatesian. I noticed that among AFC participants you specialize in finance and stock markets. Greg Fleming has been notable on Wall Street since at least 2006, when the Wall Street Journal called him "Merrill Lynch's Keystone". Here is a sampling of nearly two dozen full, independent articles on him in major sources since 2006:
Could you take all of this coverage into consideration and assess whether Fleming meets notability thresholds, and if so consider accepting the AFC submission? Thank you very much for your time. TerryBG (talk) 01:56, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Establishments in Siam
Hi. I reverted your changes to Category:Establishments in Siam by year and tagged the newly created categories for deletion. Since consensus at the CfD was to maintain the Siam cats under the Thailand parent, the proper way to address the naming issue is to add a third parameter to the estcatCountry template, like this. --Paul_012 (talk) 20:39, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

Withdrawn CfD
A beer on me!
It's been my experience that the easiest way for a Wikipedian to react when confronted with adversity to something they're doing is to double down, dig their heels in and fight for it. Conversely, one of the most difficult things for a Wikipedian to do is to say "Okay, this wasn't the best idea, I'll move on."
You did the latter, and that commands respect, and I'm not one to ignore such a clear command. I'd also like to apologize if I sounded angry: I wasn't; more bemused and a little annoyed, but I have a bad habit of sounding angry when I'm being flippant. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPantsTell me all about it.22:20, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team article logs
Hello, UnitedStatesian,
As you might have noticed, the past week I've been going through defunct and inactive WikiProjects and deleting hundreds of unused empty assessment categories, most of which were created between 2007-2011 and never used. But I didn't know what to do with this dumb article logs that update daily despite the fact that there are no articles that were ever assessed. I've posted on the Version 1.0 talk page trying to get the bot to stop updating these logs with no success so far.
Thank you for coming up with a solution of uncategorizing them and helping to clean up these abandoned WikiProjects. It's appreciated. LizRead!Talk!05:24, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
You are very welcome, as always. And yes, removing the 1.0 category stops the bot (still have to figure out the WP:MILHIST problem, though: stay tuned). Thank you again for all of your good work. UnitedStatesian (talk) 05:30, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you so much for going over WikiProjects and cleaning up pages I missed. It's appreciated. And if any of these inactive or defunct WikiProjects come back to life and stuff starts showing up on the Wanted Categories list, I can restore the pages pretty easily. I try to check that list regularly but it can be a bit overwhelming. LizRead!Talk!04:59, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
You are very welcome as always, @Liz: my main task now is inactivating the templates for projects that are inactive, so that the talk pages stop being categorized and I can proceed with the emptied category tagging. And just as a heads up, I have re-created some of the empty importance cats you deleted: if the project is still assessing importance, I want to make sure it has a full set of six importance cats, even if some of them are currently empty. UnitedStatesian (talk) 19:11, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
Draft:Teresa Marinovic
Hello, @UnitedStatesian:. How can I request a revision of Draft:Teresa Marinovic? Despite I don't created that article, I've considerably improved according the General notability guideline (GNG). I'm asking this to you because you've been involved in the notices of the article. Also I don't know if you or @Dentren: denominated the (bad) original article as draft. I wait for your answer. Greetings from Chile. Carigval.97 (talk) 16:33, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
Hello. I noticed you deleted from Ahn Cheol-soo the uncreated categories Category:People Party (South Korea, 2016) politicians and Category:People Party (South Korea) politicians. This is actually part of a larger strange issue, and if I could I would like yours and/or others' collaboration on this. As I explained on Talk:People Party (South Korea, 2016), the issue of calling these entities "People Party" or "People's Party" is unresolved on Wikipedia. Nonetheless, I changed "People's Party (South Korea, 2016)" to be called "People Party (South Korea, 2016)", to match the current People Party (South Korea) which has the same name in Korean. There is in fact a Category:People's Party (South Korea, 2016) politicians, but I changed Ahn's to be without 's. I would like to move the other four politicians in Category:People's Party (South Korea, 2016) politicians to a new "Category:People Party (South Korea, 2016) politicians" along with Ahn but this would necessitate changing all of the text in their Wikipedia pages to "People Party". I would also like to create a new category, Category:People Party (South Korea) politicians, for the 2020 party, but concerningly Ahn might be only one in that category as of now. The 2020 party also has no template, which needs to be made despite scant information. Sorry this was a bit of a mess of an explanation, please let me know if you need clarification of anything. Bottom Importance Category for WikiProject: Retailing
Hi UnitedStatesian. I saw that you removed the bottom importance designation from WikiProject: Retailing for "consistency." The WikiProject actually had a discussion about our importance categories about a year ago and we came to an agreement on definitions for our designations, including Bottom. Also, a quick glance at some other importance templates show that Bottom is fairly common. I know you were trying to help and I want to avoid a back-and-forth where we just keep reverting each other's edits so I wanted to reach out and let you know about this. I would appreciate it if you revert your changes, otherwise I will in a few days. --Tfkalk (talk) 03:17, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
@Elijahandskip: Thanks for the question, and I will try to help. The template {{WikiProject Twenty-Tens decade}} was missing a few lines of code, which I have added. But now you need to go to the template and create all the assessment categories that currently show as red on that template page (let me know if you need help with that); don't worry if they are initially empty. Once those cats are created and populated, the 1.0 bot will run. Come back here if you need any other help, and thanks for all your good work. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:38, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
@Elijahandskip: the unnecessary cat showed up due to a code mistake I made; I've now fixed it. The chart will not be generated by the bot for a couple of days; the bot works off a backup of the all-WP database, which is only periodically refreshed. Give it a few days, and it should be fine, and in the meantime LMK if you need anything else. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 15:53, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello, UnitedStatesian,
If you don't want to receive these CSD C1 notices, let me know. Some of the more prolific category creators have opted out of receiving them. LizRead!Talk!16:09, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
@Liz:: I don't mind; wouldn't want to make things more complicated for you. Do you have a way to exclude them automatically, or do you have to check the creator on every cat you tag? UnitedStatesian (talk) 16:12, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
It's not complicated at all, there are 6 or 7 editors who have opted out, all of whom you are familiar with from Category World. I just uncheck the Notify page creator box when using Twinkle to tag the page. LizRead!Talk!21:42, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

I see you've been removing these useless Version 1.0 logs from otherwise empty categories but can you think of any category they could be put in? By being uncategorized they are basically invisible and there might be a day when they can be rightly deleted and it won't be possible to find them unless we go through your Contributions list. It could mean that we create a new category for useless logs for inactive WikiProjects unless this would screw up the bot's activities.
@Liz: Thanks for the question; instead of categories, I would use the Special:AllPages special page if that is something we decide to do, since all the pages begin with the same prefix; this link gives the correct result, without anyone having having to through my contributions (or anyone else's). And thank you for your contributions also! Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 19:10, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
@Funandtrvl: thanks for the question. The task force had been tagged as inactive for nearly 7 months (here's the diff), and there had not been a talk page thread that got a response in over 7 years. The task force has not been deleted, and all the article talk pages still have the tag. Do you plan to recruit other editors to join you in reactivating the task force? My own view is that the parent WP:WikiProject Religion is more than adequate. UnitedStatesian (talk) 21:52, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
Sneaky transclusions
Hi, UnitedStatesian,
I just wanted to let you know that when you tag pages like Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Interfaith articles by quality statistics for deletion, they can be transcluded to the main WikiProject main page and so it appears like that page is tagged for deletion, too. I have been removing these transclusions from a couple of WikiProject pages when I see them but you might double check as well because I might miss one. A few days ago, I accidentally deleted a WikiProject main page for an inactive WikiProject and, luckily, it was brought to my attention and I restored it. We used to have an administrator who'd delete any page with a CSD tag without checking it but he was desysoped...still, admin scrutiny can vary so it helps when taggers also check their for any unexpected outcomes.

Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.
Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.
At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.
There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.
Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here. Sent to 827 users. 04:33, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

I didn't know if the "x" in the ISO code for the Dacian language was part of the code, so I didn't added it to the template. Thank you for fixing it :D (G)jabz (talk) 04:46, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
Please do not continue creating WP:CRYSTAL TV categories. The inclusion criteria for 2022 categories is "television seasons that have aired at least one episode in the year 2022". Since it is still 2021, and will be for 2 months, no articles are eligible to be added to these categories now, and will not be until episodes HAVE aired in 2022. Thankyou. --AussieLegend (✉) 06:42, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
Just wanted to chime in that this situation happens every year, although usually not until November or December and it's not just with TV shows but movies, sports teams, lots of event-driven subjects. And you will not be the only editor who gets a note like this, it'll happen a lot, right up to December 31st! You'll start to see them soon on the empty category list. FYI: I don't think that an admin has acted on this tagging because it's important to link to the page you want to move to this location. Admins are reluctant to delete a page before checking out if the article you want to move over is superior to the page that currently exists. If you use Twinkle, there should be a field where you can put the page name that you want moved over.
Hello, UnitedStatesian. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:FACC AG, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.
If the page has already been deleted, you can request it be undeleted so you can continue working on it.
that's a bit presumptuous, there could be a bit of WP:AGF - the immediacy of your action shows none, from the very presumptuous comment about list of publications, and moving another editors item to draftspace not speaking first really is lacking in tact JarrahTree14:16, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
Hello UnitedStatesian, could you explain why you removed the categories and External Links section on the page for Sadiah Qureshi? I had a look at the External Links guidance you linked to, but I couldn't see why they should be removed. Many thanks, Srsval (talk) 20:46, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. If you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Hey @Robby.is.on: thanks for the question. The "Fooian expatriate sportspeople in Bar" are only for people who are currently in the country of Bar. Similar to Category:Living people: when someone dies we remove them from the category; when someone leaves the country it is no longer defining and they should be removed from Fooian expatriate sportspeople in Bar category. Compare the intro "are" language on those category pages with the "are or were" language on the "Fooian expatriate footballers" category pages (which should NOT be removed when the person returns home). Thanks for you good work, UnitedStatesian (talk) 17:19, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. Good point about the category descriptions saying "are". are only for people who are currently in the country of Bar. Is there documentation that states this? they should be removed from Fooian expatriate sportspeople in Bar category I have not seen this happening before, curiously.
I've found these categories very useful for finding footballers who have played abroad in the past. So I find it a pity we should not be using them after the individuals have the left the respective countries. Robby.is.on (talk) 17:45, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: for documentation, I am only going by the language that is on every Fooian expatriate sportspeople in Bar category page, and how it differs from the language on the Fooian expatriate footballers category pages. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 17:53, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
The categories are not for current people only. See Category:Expatriates by country of residence which mentions no such thing. Living and working abroad perpetually defines a person. Are you proposing to remove all football club categories where the player does not currently play? Please refrain from further edits regarding expatriate sportspeople until this has been sorted out in a clearer way. Geschichte (talk) 21:29, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
I remember that you in the past participated in discussion related with Vital articles regarding population as (the most) objetive criteria on choices for countries. What do you think about current process to add Malaysia (32 mln) population over many big countries, including regions which are not represented, for example Africa or Central Asia (Uzbekistan - the most significant country in central Asia due to population, Uzbek language is available in Telegram (software), Kazakh is not). I am informing you about that discussion because of tomorrow (after 15 days sine opening nomination) discussion on Malayasia can be closed as "Passed 6-3". This strike me as too bad addition. If we take look on Wikipedia:Vital articles/Level/4/Geography/#Countries then it is clear that we are going to have distribution of 7/11 for East Asia and distribution of only 0/5 for Central Asia. I am also disappointed some participants of VA reached to consensus that we do not need to have Morocco and Algeria together on this list but can have overlap between Malyasia/Singapoore/Taiwan etc. (Maghreb historially is very significant region, Ibn Battuta and Augustine of Hippo were born wheere is today Morocco/Algeria). Discussion can be closed as passed after 15 days, but with score like 6-4 could be continued for next 15 days, to last 30 or sometimes even more, for more discussed and analyzed process.
Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021.
I noticed that you reverted my edit on Infobox roller coaster to restore broken code that was trying and failing to categorize into Category:Articles needing RCDB numbers. Putting broken code back into the template is not particularly helpful; you could have posted on the infobox talk page to see if anyone was still interested in the category, removed that category from the code altogether or recreated the category. User:GKFXtalk22:21, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
Just my "once in a while" reminder to please notify page creators when you tag a page for deletion. You're an extremely experienced editor and you're using Twinkle to tag pages fpr deletion so I guess you just need to make sure that little box that says "Notify page creator if possible" is checked off. In this case, it's a new editor and they might wonder why the page they created has suddenly disappeared so even these template notices help keep them informed of what is going on and why.
I'm not sure why you keep recreating this category. It is then empty and then gets tagged for deletion. It seems like a maintenance category that is no longer needed. If you believe it should be kept even when empty, please tag it {{emptycat}}? Thanks. LizRead!Talk!04:16, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
@Liz: I only recreate it at the time it is NOT empty (and so appears on Special:WantedCategories); the recreation brings it to the attention of the maintenance editors who then empty it. I usually then G7 it, but of course it occasionally slips through to your C1 list. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 05:27, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

There is some big red warning message on this page "Error: Category:Articles with Brazilian Portuguese-language sources (pt) is not the category being populated by the {{In lang}} template. The correct category is located at: Category:Articles with Portuguese-language sources (pt)." Since you seem to be a pro at creating these language categories from the Wanted Categories list, maybe you know whether this is an error that can be fixed. Thank you! This is a terrible close. All of the keep arguments are logical fallacies (appeal to tradition or similar), entirely unsupported by any evidence, or entirely miss the point and go off on tangents. Please let someone who is able to assess not only the number but the validity of arguments close this. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 00:25, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
There has to be some point at which you realize that when everyone else disagrees with you, perhaps it isn't everyone else who is wrong. BD2412T01:00, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
@BD2412: I felt the need to point out that the keep arguments are atrocious, even if they're popular. Your own argument is a not-even-disguised appeal to tradition. You seriously don't find it problematic when there's way too many categories on an article? It's the exact same problem as MOS:OVERLINK. The examples given in WP:DEFCAT and WP:NONDEF speak for themselves, and I don't find it plausible that someone would use a subject's education in the same way they would use an index term (which is what categories are, or at least what they are supposed to be, longstanding-but-incomprehensible-tradition notwithstanding). RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 04:01, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
I see some of the most experienced editors on this project – User:Oculi, User:Necrothesp, User:DuncanHill – not hesitating to immediately express the value of these categories. Their confidence has been earned through a decade or more of participation in our processes. It was pointed out in the discussion that there certainly are individuals for whom their academic affiliation is a baseline defining characteristic even at the heightened standard of being something that they would be described as being "known for". However, if we are going to have categorizations for those individuals (and we are), then what is the sense of omitting an "alumni of" category from an article for another person who in fact meets the description of being an alumni of that institution? Omitting a name in such an instance becomes a form of inaccuracy. Furthermore, if you really want to remove categories for things that people are not "known for" then you should start with year of birth and year of death categories. Who in the world is "known for" being born in 1883 or 1902 or 1957? At least someone's educational affiliation is something they probably chose to have, and worked to achieve, which makes it more significant to their biography than the happenstance of their birth date. BD2412T04:47, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
not hesitating to immediately express the value of these categories - and yet, the best they could come up with when challenged about the supposed value of these categories was "this is obviously defining" and "we've always done so". I'd expect better from "some of the most experienced editors on this project" - not just in terms of the project's policies, but in terms being able to support their argument with something more convincing than unsubstantiated assertions and an elementary fallacy. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 06:10, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
then what is the sense of omitting an "alumni of" category from an article for another person who in fact meets the description of being an alumni of that institution? If these categories are inappropriate categories for most of their members, then what is the sense of having them? WP:SMALLCAT is a thing; and too much categories is not better than omitting a rather trivial fact. Like with wikilinks (MOS:OVERLINK), less (but more focused) is more. RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 06:16, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

Dashboard.wikiedu categories
Do you have any idea why these are so often categorising the redirects? Previously it was because the institution name in the sidebar was in a different form but now that trick doesn't work and nor does putting every template through AWB to try to find the problematic text. Timrollpickering (talk) 16:20, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
@Timrollpickering:: not sure I follow your question; if the course page uses a different form of the institution name, there needs to be set up a category with the "wrong" name (such as Category:Dashboard.wikiedu.org courses, University of California Los Angeles) that redirects to the correct cat and temporarily holds the course page; then the page automatically gets moved into the correct cat. But I think the emptied redirect cats need to stay, or those page recategorizations stop working. Do you see any examples that are not following the above logic? Sorry @INS Pirat: it doesn't work that way. We are working through a backlog of over 200 red categories that appear on Special:WantedCategories every 72 hours and need to be handled. There is frankly not time to check the user contributions of every editor who added one of those red categories to an article an try to guess whether they will eventually get around to creating it. If you could wait less than 48 hours before doing so, it would be very helpful. UnitedStatesian (talk) 22:46, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
Yes, in this specific case, I left the category not created for days, OK (in the case above, just minutes had passed since the addition). But I can't agree with the rest. No, you don't need to handle it by means of necessary removal. You're not a bot to process the list blindly. --INS Pirat (talk) 23:20, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
And so if you take the time to check my contributions, you will see that processing the list blindly is not what I do. 02:04, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
In my opinion, it contradicts what you said before and what you did in my case. You should have created the page, or notified me, or left it like that (for somebody else to handle), or at least reverted the addition. You shouldn't manually remove a link to the appropriate, already filled category (no matter, for a day it is there, or for two days). That's it. --INS Pirat (talk) 18:11, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
The oddities of CSD G13s
Hello, UnitedStatesian,
We get into a tricky system with CSD G13s five months out of the year (drafts last edited on February 28, April 30, June 30, September 30, and November 30) because of Wikipedia's UTC clock system. According to UTC, right now, it is December 31st (even though it is still December 30th where I'm at) But because there is no June 31st, as the expiring draft list goes from June 30th to July 1st, drafts that had their last edit on July 1st (UTC time) are not eligible for deletion until this time tomorrow. We skip a day of draft deletions.
We run into the opposite problem the other five months (drafts last edited on March 31, May 31, August 31, October 31 and December 31) because we have an extra day's worth of drafts that are deleted in one day to make up for the extra 31st day that the current month doesn't have. And in February, we have 3 extra days worth of drafts to delete on February 28th (for drafts last edited on August 29, 30, and 31st). It is only January and July, months that both have 31 days, that we have a congruence between the days of the month of the drafts and the days of the month of the expiration date.
I hope this makes sense. Nearly every month, we go through this little dance, either skipping a day of expiring drafts or having 2 days of expiring drafts on the same day. And it's even trickier for those of us who do not live in the UK and have to make adjustments due to Wikipedia's own time zone preferences. It's kind of fortunate that there are only a few of us who work with expiring drafts or I'd be posting this explanation dozens of times.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

These categories you have tagged for CSD deletion have to be emptied before they are deleted. Otherwise, they will just show up as Wanted Categories. I don't know whether you can get a bot to empty them or if you need to do this yourself when you close a CFD. Editor Marcocapelle seems to be the current expert on non-admins closing CFD discussions that have resulted in deletion decisions so he might know. Thank you! I do not have access to bots so I am just manually emptying categories. Consequently I only close discussions if there is a limited amount of manual work involved. Presumably with the use of WP:AWB categories can be emptied much more efficiently but I have never bothered to dive into that. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:49, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask at the help desk. Once you have made at least 10 edits and had an account for at least four days, you will have the option to create articles yourself without posting a request to Articles for creation.
I hope you are well. I go through the monthly maintenance categories at the end of the month and I came across this one you created. However, it looks like it's not on AnomieBot's radar because there is no January or February categories in it.
I posted a note on the bot's talk page asking if it was on the list to create monthly clean-up categories for but I thought I'd ask you as well. This could very well be a category that you use but if it's not going to have monthly bot-generated categories in it, it should probably be moved out of Category:Counter categories. Not an emergency, of course, just thought I'd inquire about it. Thanks! LizRead!Talk!20:09, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Hi, I'm a little bit confused by the decision to move the history of UT Southern FireHawks into draftspace and then recreate the same redirect in its stead. This has now split the history and will make it hard to trace when, inevitably in six months, the draft gets G13'd. Would you be opposed to undoing the move and reinstating the initial redirect? Anarchyte (talk) 04:08, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
@Anarchyte:, thanks for the question, and for all your good work. I plan on using the page's history to work on the draft, and so think that the draftspace is the best place for it. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 17:59, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
@184.153.21.19: thanks for the request, but sadly that category should not be created, for 2 reasons: 1) categories need to match the title of the article, so the new cat would be Category:United States Center for SafeSport. And 2), we don't create categories if all they are going to contain is the single article on the same subject; do you have other that would go into this same category? Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 06:33, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
@98.186.54.177: sorry for the six hour delay; the short answer is: no one has started the category page yet (probably because the season wont start for another 9 months). You way request someone set it up at WP:Requested categories, or better yet: create a user ID and then you will be able to set it up yourself. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:39, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
@Chatul: thanks so much for bringing the script bug to my attention (and more important, to DannyS's attention). With his fix, we should be all set now going forward. UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:46, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
Hi! I don't think moves like Draft:Crash Land -> Draft:Stmpd Rcrds are a good idea. One of the main points of these redirects (and for the ones that are simply the leftover of a promoted draft, probably the only point) is to prevent broken incoming links (user bookmarks, wikilinks from user talk pages, etc.). When you move the redirect and don't leave a redirect at the previous title, then that's gone, and there is much less of a point in keeping the page at all.
Also, for this particular draft, there's another consideration. It has history, not as a draft of the target article, but as a draft for another, related, topic . The move has made it nearly impossible for editors in the future to find out that a draft ever existed on this topic. – Uanfala (talk)23:28, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
@Uanfala:: thanks for reaching out, but I obviously disagree: when the redirect is suppressed, the record remains, and the "non existent" page effectively behaves exactly like a soft redirect does: try clicking on the redlink above and the resulting page tells you exactly where the content (and history) is now, and provides a link to it. (the behavior is the same if the page is bookmarked, if there is an external link to it's URL somewhere in the internet, if the user re-starts the draft from scratch, or if there inbound user talk links (in this case there are none)). I think it much more likely that future editors will want to incorporate items from the draft history into the related article that already exists, which is why I think the redirect is better there.
That said, if after clicking on the redlink and seeing what I mean, you still feel strongly, I am happy to reverse this move; just let me know. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 03:00, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
So your point is that future editors who're interested in the topic will be better able to locate the draft if it's been moved? If people are interested in the topic of Crash Land then they now obviously won't be able to find that draft, and if they're interested in Stmpd Rcrds then that draft isn't going to help them because it's on a different topic. Maybe take a more straightforward case, like the similarly moved Draft:Entailment (Semantics) -> Draft:Entailment (linguistics)? So, you're saying that people who're interested in the history of the article Entailment (linguistics) can more easily reach the draft if it's named exactly as the article? I imagine that if anyone is interested in that, they'll just check the "what links here" for draft namespace links. How do yo see things instead? That people will instead make dedicated searches for the article title in the draft namespace? I don't quite get the picture.
As for the link still functioning, that's not really the case. The link is red, so if someone sees it they'll most likely understand that it points to a deleted (or non-existent) page rather than a page that's been moved (because moved pages normally leave a redirect at the old title). And if they do end up clicking on the red link, then yes, the move log entry (with the new destination) will be visible, but only if they're viewing it from a registered account. If not, then all they'll see is the default system message displayed for non-existent titles. – Uanfala (talk)03:42, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
I don't think that is correct: clicking on redlinks for a deleted page shows the log entry for everyone, not just logged in users. (I just logged out, cleared cookies, and tried it and confirmed this is the case: do you get different behavior when logged out?). And yes, I think people are more likely (in fact much more likely) to find the history of an article in draftspace if it is titled identically, since the easiest way is to just add the characters Draft: before the article title in the address bar ("What links here" for an article often initially gives many hundreds of results, making the specific draft hard to see, especially if it is titled completely differently, or requiring the extra step of then specifically selecting the draft namespace). UnitedStatesian (talk) 06:58, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Ah, you're right: when clicked, draft redlinks will normally lead you to a page that also displays the deletion log entries. That happens because the draft namespace is usually editable by IPs, so the redlink loads the target in edit mode, which comes with the deletion log entries (this won't happen for articles; it won't happen for drafts if their title is protected or if the IP is (range)blocked, in which case all they'll see is MediaWiki:Noarticletext).
So what you have in mind is people searching directly for drafts with the exact title as the article? Hm... that's one search strategy, but I can't really imagine many people would use it. Still, vacating the old redirect titles defeats the main purpose of having those redirects (you can see WP:RDRAFT and the comments in the linked RfC). Maybe there is a case for changing our approach to draft redirects and for somehow accommodating search strategies like the one you have in mind, but that would require a community discussion. Until that time, would you mind not making such moves? Or if you do them, at least leave behind a redirect? Thanks! – Uanfala (talk)11:58, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you! Yes, the RfC didn't specifically discuss drafts that have been redirected, but the relevant factors are the same: the users who have created those drafts (and who will typically have received talk page messages pointing to them) may want to get back to them. As for cases like Draft:Bait30... above, I don't think it matters for incoming links whether the title is "incorrect", but I'm not going to get in your way here. I think a good rule of thumb in these cases, like with other uses of suppressredirect, is to consider if the trailing redirect will meet any of the speedy deletion criteria; if it doesn't, then suppressredirect shouldn't be used. – Uanfala (talk)01:16, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
you fixed categories
Hello UnitedStatesian,
Thanks for fixing the categories in my sandbox. I had totally forgotten about that. Dutchy45 (talk) 02:27, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
Hello, UnitedStatesian. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:Blue Buffalo, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.
If the page has already been deleted, you can request it be undeleted so you can continue working on it.
I've been going through Wikipedia:Database reports/Linked miscapitalizations and fixing things (and also some hyphen fixes), and I have obviously not been careful enough on some of those. Thanks for finding and fixing my mistakes. Is there a page that lists articles in non-existent categories that I could use to find my own mistakes? Dicklyon (talk) 17:39, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
@Dicklyon: thanks for all your good edits, and yes, the page is Special:WantedCategories. I think I have fixed most of yours (which are of course only a tiny number of the ones on that page), except for the Channel 4 one, which I will fix later today (a bot will repopulate it once your WP:CFD discussion is completed). Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 17:42, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

The article is reliably sourced, comparable to all other similar stub gazetteer entries about various Croatian toponyms I've created over the years. I have no idea why you moved this to draft space. If you have a specific concern, please voice it. Posting generic references to policies and guidelines to me, after a hundred thousand edits and having been enforcing the same policies as an admin for so many years, it's just weird. I don't know if I should take it as some sort of an insult? I deserve the benefit of the doubt at the very least. --Joy (talk) 17:31, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
@Joy: apologies, the article looked like a draft: it was recently created, and had only one source, a redlinked category, and a bad accessdate parameter in the reference (which is driven by the template used). I do not check for other sources when draftifying, only when nominating for deletion. Please do not take the draftification as an insult. UnitedStatesian (talk) 19:56, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
UnitedStatesian, you draftified articles by two very longtime editors (and also admins) today. It was predictable that these moves would be reverted. I'm not saying that there are double standards but you should expect pushback when you move articles written by experienced editors to Draft space. I have found your judgment in the past to otherwise be flawless so I'm hoping that you this was just a misstep. I should say that the moves only drew my attention because I review User:JJMC89 bot/report/Draftifications/daily daily and they popped up on the list. I hope all is well with you! All the best, LizRead!Talk!01:46, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
OK, I guess it's viable to draftify on sight, esp. in case of actual new editors, but it seems a bit short-sighted to do it like this. I was additionally annoyed that I had to restore all the incoming redirects that I carefully constructed as well. When the draftify instructions already have references to inexperienced editors, you should take heed and do some more checks beforehand, even just cursory ones. For example, I have one of those JS tools enabled that allows me to see the number of edits and user rights in a popup just by mousing over an editor's name, so it would take just a few seconds to do such a cursory check - I suggest you do that in the future. --Joy (talk) 18:18, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
Curious about Template:FIS Snowboarding Junior World Championships
@Jonesey95 Thanks for the question: I was the one who originally draftified it, and as the creator had addressed my concern, I thought it reasonable to agree to their request, which they made above. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 06:31, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

I noticed that the same person created a 2nd version of 2022–23 Arizona Wildcats women's basketball team. I bring this to your attention mainly because you were the one who moved the 1st one from the article space to the draft space. I don't think much has changed in this general topic to warrant this being a published page, do you? Anyway, I was thinking that one of us should let him know that the subject matter isn't ready to have its own page on this site yet. GoWarriors151718 (talk) 03:05, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
New Page Review queue March 2022
Hello UnitedStatesian,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 817 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 847 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Why No bots?
Hi, may I ask why you added "NO BOTS" here and here? In both cases, the contents had the category coded in the normal way, so the bot is fully able to process it. – FayenaticLondon09:31, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

@AmericanEditor350: thanks for the question, and for your contributions. I would make sure that the article has some well-sourced discussion of issues or events related to the group. A quick internet search reveals this and this; I am sure you can find many others to include. Happy editing, and thanks again, UnitedStatesian (talk) 12:53, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
A goat for you!
Thank you for showing me how to disable categories in sandbox drafts.
Do you know of a way to empty categories that are full when they are tagged for speedy deletion? I've heard Cat-a-lot is a tool one can use but I myself have never used it. Incidents like this are not common in the CSD world but they do happen occasionally. Thanks for any assistance you can offer. LizRead!Talk!23:53, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022
New Page Review queue June 2022
Hello UnitedStatesian,
Backlog status
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000 at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
Backlog drive
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.
TIP – New school articles
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
Misc
There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:
Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 18141 articles, as of 22:00, 6 April 2025 (UTC), according to DatBot
There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

@Maxime Vernier: yes, it is possible for a company to have two primary listings; a real life example (as opposed to the fictional one on the documentation page) is Linde plc; in that case it is appropriate to put both primary listings in the infobox. But we should avoid a selection of secondary listings, consistent with the documentation text. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 19:20, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
I disagree with you but does not want to engage in editor war reverting back and forth. I believe even secondary listings like ADRs are useful information to have in the infobox. I have asked the question in the talk page of the template documentation if you wish to participate. Maxime Vernier (talk) 18:06, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Original This Hell redirect with history swapped into userspace
Hello. I noticed you moved VersaceSpace's This Hell user draft into mainspace and page swapped it with the location of their userspace draft. I understand there's not a lot of rules on where to put pages to move them out of the way, but is moving a redirect with a history of work on it by other users into VersaceSpace's userspace really a good thing to do? (VersaceSpace also could've been encouraged to just recreate the existing article with their own content.) I also don't think that even from a cursory glance that this article really seems that notable (it didn't chart, and there's quite little outside of cursory mentions in news sources that the single was released), or that it's a substantial improvement on the previous version that was redirected. I'm trying to say that just because users desire to have their drafts moved does not mean they necessarily should not be. Ss11200:48, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
@Ss112: thanks for the question; I have certainly gone either way in such cases, but am inclined to give an editor with a few thousand edits and almost 2 years on the project the benefit of the doubt, when the article is referenced and a good enough start, as I did in this case. (and I think VersaceSpace did exactly the right thing: when an article has been deleted-by-being-redirected, the right thing is usually to develop the article in userspace or draftspace) But I would have no problem if you disagree enough to reverse my pageswap. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 01:26, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
@Chefmikesf: thanks for asking: I reviewed the draft and accepted it for creation as an article. You are of course welcome to continue improving it. Thank you for your contributions. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 00:37, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Re: People by law firm in the United States
Okay so explain to me what the difference is between "People by law firm in the United States" (which only has one page thus far) versus "Lawyers by law firm", to me they're the same thing. By "people", what do you mean? Clerks? Law secretaries? You can contest the deletion but it was premature to remove it outright, so I might readd it if there isn't sufficient rationale to warrant its inclusion. Snickers2686 (talk) 14:52, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
@Snickers2686: most likely is senior non-lawyers (former politicians, corporate executives) whom law firms hire as advisors or lobbyists. Also, Category:Lawyers by law firm does not specify the country. It is not "premature" to contest an out-of-process speedy nomination such as yours by removing it; did you mean to nominate it via the normal categories for deletion/merging discussion process? It would not be appropriate for you to re-add a speedy tag where the speedy has been contested, regardless of what you think of the reasons for the contesting. UnitedStatesian (talk) 16:53, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
Okay, so it doesn't specify the country, what's your point? Under WP:DEL#PROCESSES there's nothing that says it can't be renominated even if through WP:PROD. Again, contesting it is one thing, but to outright remove the hat was wrong. Snickers2686 (talk) 17:25, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
@Snickers2686: WP:PROD says: "PROD must only be used if no opposition to the deletion is expected" and "Proposed deletion cannot be used with redirects, user pages (except user books), drafts, templates, categories, or pages in any other namespace." (emphasis mine) Of course there would be no problem if you want to take it to WP:CFD; is that what you meant? UnitedStatesian (talk) 17:39, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
I hope you are having a pleasant summer. It's cooling off here in the Northwest (finally!).
If you look at Special:UnusedCategories, you can see that we have dozens of these empty translation categories. I was unsure about tagging them because they are marked "historical" and because they all emptied suddenly, on the same day which is often the result of a template deletion. I was thinking about inquiring at Wikipedia talk:Translation to see whether or not they were interested in keeping them and having them marked with an {{emptycat}} tag. But I haven't gotten around to it today and I saw that you had tagged some of the categories already with a CSD C1 so I just thought I'd check in with you to see what you thought. Stay well, LizRead!Talk!23:27, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
@Liz: thanks as always for the question; I modified the template that resulted in the categories being emptied; there is no reason to keep empty historical categories, as has been confirmed in CfD discussions for other similar categories, so I think they are ok to delete. I should finidh tagging them in the next day or so. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 04:14, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Aiiyyee! UnitedStatesian, all of those translation categories filled back up! They are no longer empty. Can you move the CSD tagging from the ones you tagged? I tagged a few as well that I'll take care of. I guess there was a template was mistakenly deleted or changed. Thanks. LizRead!Talk!20:34, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Hello, UnitedStatesian. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "Gisto".
After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.
Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.
Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
For those who may have missed it in our last newsletter, here's a quick reminder to see the letter we have drafted, and if you support it, do please go ahead and sign it. If you already signed, thanks. Also, if you haven't noticed, the backlog has been trending up lately; all reviews are greatly appreciated.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Hello. I was looking into the WBD article and I noticed that the location was missing. When I went there to edit, There was a message that said not to put the location back. It's kind of interesting, because when we were editing the article, the address stayed there with a source. Tell me why shouldn't we add the location back? I am kind of confused. RamsesTimeGame (talk) 06:03, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
@RamsesTimeGame: Thanks for the note, and for your contributions, but wow, not even 24 hours for me to respond. The infobox documentation says "reserve hq_location for the building, address, or business park, if these are themselves notable (emphasis mine) and 230 Park Avenue South is not. This is a result of longstanding consensus; feel free to open a discussion on the infobox talkpage, but in the meantime I have removed it again. UnitedStatesian (talk) 14:05, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the response. Apologies for not giving you enough time to respond before reverting the edit. I do have a source that has the address from Bloomberg and I am hoping that it could be notable, but for now, we will see if the address will return to the info box or not. At least I got into a discussion with you. Again, thanks for the response. RamsesTimeGame (talk) 15:45, 10 September 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for your bringing this to my attention. Category:Soviet Georgian generals does actualy exist, it was just a small typo error on my part. Fixed it. Be well, stay safe. TheMightyGeneral (talk) 08:45, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Massacre of Running Waters (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.
Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.
Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.
NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022
Suggestions:
There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.
Backlog:
Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Strange nomination. They do not have enough less encyclopedic categories to delete? The same for the next nomination below. I opposed the deletion in the discussion but does not look as it would help.--Maxaxa (talk) 19:50, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
2022 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Sorry I didn't notice sooner, but looking around, I see that you reverted the removal of the "Importance" parameter for Wikiproject Sports here: . Your edit summary says that it is "per talk page discussion". But there is no such talk page discussion I can find of this matter - not on the Template talk page, not on the Wikiproject talk page, not on your own personal talk page. Well, I'll clarify slightly, there was one person asking about importance on the Wikiproject talk page (Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Sports/Archive_10#Adding_importance_onto_the_articles), but it was hardly a consensus to restore it. If you'd looked at the original edit request, there was a fairly significant, well-attended consensus to deprecate the "importance" parameter. Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Sports/Archive_10#Proposal:_Deprecate_importance_parameter_for_assessment_for_Sports . Can you point to this "talk page discussion" that you felt was sufficient to overturn this fairly strong consensus against using importance? SnowFire (talk) 17:11, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
@SnowFire You've stumped me: I went 15 months back in my contributions: it was probably that one user request you link to above, but I may also have misread the edit request on the template talk page, and I agree the consensus was and is NOT to have importance, so I have rolled back my edit. Sorry for causing any inconvenience. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 00:55, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
Hello! I see you're the administrator who addressed the proposed move of the Peloton article. On Talk:Peloton Interactive, the discussion's result was to rename the article to the proposed new name Peloton (exercise equipment company). You made the move but then immediately redirected the target back to the original title, which it's been ever since. I'm puzzled by this. Was it a mistake or am I missing something? Thanks! Mbinebri (talk) 16:12, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
Hello @Mbinebri: thanks for the question, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I made the move back to the previous title, as I was not aware of the move discussion that had taken place about a year earlier. I think given that discussion was lightly attended and non-admin. closed, it makes sense to have another one if you feel strongly that Peloton Interactive is not the best place for the article to be located. Ping me and I will be happy to participate. Best, UnitedStatesian (talk) 19:43, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023
Hello UnitedStatesian,
New Page Review queue April to June 2023
Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

The New Page Patrol team is sending you this impromptu message to inform you of a steeply rising backlog of articles needing review. If you have any extra time to spare, please consider reviewing one or two articles each day to help lower the backlog. You can start reviewing by visiting Special:NewPagesFeed. Thank you very much for your help.
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
It's sad how many articles have been deleted due to this human believing in Existence ≠ Notability. I'm sure your existence is notable to your parents but everyone else on the internet doesn't give two craps. Should we delete you for not being notable to the masses? You and the rest of the moderation team are hacks for removing all of those pages of unused/abandoned highways. I'm glad I stopped donating to Wikipedia, we need another form of documentation for the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.172.133.118 (talk) 20:31, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
Hello UnitedStatesian,
I must apologize for speaking so harshly to you about something so mundane that was not a fault of your own. There is no excuse, but I was just upset to come across an interesting old/removed article that I had stumbled upon in a link on an online message board. I wish that we could archive every single article & topic out there, but I understand there are limitations to what should actually be kept online due to storage & monetary limitations. Again, my apologies for this rant. You did not deserve to have my unfounded anger thrown in your direction. 69.172.133.118 (talk) 13:25, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
New pages patrol newsletter
Hello UnitedStatesian,
New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023
Backlog update:
At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive:
A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades:
Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip:
Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip:
If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.
I work for HashiCorp, a company focused on cloud infrastructure. I saw that you were involved in the Cloud Computing Providers Wikipedia page, so I was hoping you might be willing to participate on the HashiCorp page. In compliance with WP:COI, I posted on the Talk page requesting a few changes like updating the infobox, adding some images I uploaded under a free license, and expanding on History. Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Hi UnitedStatesian - I'm trying to clear the COI edit request backlog, and came across a request that involves an article you wrote. You can see some of the background here Talk:Cboe_Global_Markets#Request_to_revise_and_expand_the_History_section, but in a nutshell, Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) was written in 2005. In 2017, you wrote Cboe Global Markets (Cboe), and in the edit summary you called it the parent company. A connected editor has come in claiming that they are the same company, and CBOE became Cboe when they went public. If that's the case, from my understanding of preserving attribution history, it would seem to preserve more of the edit history by updating CBOE and redirecting your newer Cboe there, while renaming CBOE to Cboe. I know it's been a while, but I thought you might review to see if you remember why you thought Cboe was a new company. Thanks. STEMinfo (talk) 22:32, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
