Redfish Lake in central Idaho is the largest lake in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. It is situated at over 6,500 feet (2,000 meters) elevation, and is 4 1/2 miles (7 km) long. It lies 2 mi. (3 km) south of the resort town of Stanley. This view looking southwest shows the mountain mass of the Grand Mogul, rising to 9,733 feet (2,967 meters). The lake was named for the reddish sockeye salmon, an anadromous species that formerly spawned here, but dams on the Columbia River system now largely prevent sockeyes from reaching the lake. Today it is home to trout, including rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout; and to kokanee salmon and Chinook salmon, among other species. Tourist amenities include campsites and hiking trails maintained by the U.S. Forest Service. You are being watched...
Thank you for your appreciation! My story is about a composer and choir conductor, listen to his Lamento. - My story on 13 October was about a Bach cantata. As this place works, it's on the Main page now because of the date (but Bach wrote it for the 20th Sunday, not the Tuesday after the 21st Sunday after Trinity). I sort of like it because today is the birth date of my grandfather who loved and grew dahlias like those pictured. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:34, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Homemade pickles
Well, my (maternal) grandfather -- who was of Swiss-German descent -- made his own dill pickles. His entire back yard was a cucumber patch. -- Sca (talk) 13:46, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
(ec) Interesting. My (maternal) grandparents - where I spent most summer holidays from age 5 to 10 - had a large property (former barracks): the front garden was dominated by a broad band of dahlias and other flowers, framing rows of cucumbers and dill (!), lettuce, herbs, radishes, carrots ..., behind the house fruit trees with strawberries and potatoes underneath, and to the side berries, asparagus and a fenced area for chicken and a goat. Paradise. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:59, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
interesting! - Happy whatever you celebrate today, - more who died, more to come, and they made the world richer. Greetings from Madrid where I took the pic in 2016. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:50, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
For a surprise, a Bach cantata is on the Main page today, where it was last year for the 300th anniversary, and they were too lazy to find something new ;) - Look at my story, and listen to the 3 whole-tone steps and the dialogues of Fear and Hope. - An open letter open to be signed (more info on the talk), - I haven't checked if you did, please ignore then. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:05, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
Fare-ly well, altho in general I'm not a great fan of brass -- except maybe das Saxophon. The audience certainly liked them. -- Sca (talk) 18:33, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
BTW, I once saw Bach's purported grave in the Thomaskirche – in 1971, when Leipzig was in the DDR. (Fortunately, Leipzig didn't suffer the horrible fate of Dresden.) – Sca (talk) 19:07, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
