A magnitude 14.5 supernova, designated SN 1985A, was discovered in this galaxy by Paul Wild on January 25, 1985. It was located 3″ west and 10″ south of the galaxy's nucleus,[8] and was later classified as a type Ia supernova.[9]
On August 31, 2013, a supernova was discovered by Raffaele Belligoli and Flavio Castellani at a position 19″ west and 21″ north of the core of NGC 2748.[10] It was designated SN 2013ff and reached magnitude 15.2. Subsequent studies found a best match to a type Ic supernova.[11]
Kōichi Itagaki announced the discovery of PSN J09132750+7627410 (also known as AT 2015xf) on 10 February 2015. The transient was originally classified as a luminous blue variable, a type of supernova impostor.[12][13] Later analysis concluded that it was actually a luminous red nova (LRN).[14]
Supernova SN 2017gkk (type IIb, mag. 14.7) was discovered by Kōichi Itagaki on 31 August 2017.[15][16]
